The Pararoos have reached their first goal of the Asia-Oceania Championships being held in Kish Island, Iran, with their third successive victory in the tournament overnight securing a top two position.
Along with Iran, this means the Pararoos have qualified for the International CP Football World Cup to be held in Sevilla, Spain, in July next year.
Australia and Iran meet tonight local time in the fourth and final game of the tournament for the championship decider and a gold medal for the winners.
Both Australia and Iran have had three wins apiece. In earlier games, the Pararoos defeated South Korea 11-0, Thailand 3-0 and Jordan 7-1, while Iran have won 7-1 against Thailand, 8-0 against Jordan and 8-1 overnight against South Korea.
Jordan and Thailand are up against each other in the other match tonight, with the winners earning a bronze medal. South Korea have played all four of their matches, they finish fifth in the tournament.
The Pararoos have a fundraising appeal to assist them in getting to the World Cup, as they do not receive sufficient funding from FFA. You can donate here, or also help them by purchasing Whatever It Takes – the Inside Story of the FIFA Way, as all author proceeds go to the Pararoos.
