Matildas World Cup kit revealed

FFA has unveiled the Matildas brand new kit for this year's World Cup in France, with a “unique look” created for the team by Nike.

Launched in Paris on Monday by captain Sam Kerr and Ellie Carpenter in attendance, the new home and goalkeeper kits feature a fresh design which is described as “90s graffiti chic”.

It is the first time a home kit has been designed exclusively for the women's team, and the designers say it “channels an exuberant aesthetic”

According to Nike, “Melbourne’s famous Hosier Lane, a globally recognised street art hot spot, the famed Golden Wattle and its sickle-shaped stalks, and macro and micro shots of the Australian landscape all coalesce in the graphic” which is emblematic of contemporary Australia.

To cap it off, the words “Never Say Die” are printed inside the kit, a reference to a rallying cry among the Matildas.

“The kit is unreal, it’s such a different take on what we've seen in the past and we couldn’t have hoped for a better looking home jersey,” said Kerr.

“Most of the team was born in the 90s, so the throw back to 90s graffiti is pretty cool. We are a super young team, so this kit is definitely our style.”

Kerr said it was “a dream come true” to have a bespoke Matildas kit, commenting that the socks are also “wild”.

Nike designer, Cassie Looker, said it took three years to create the new look and fit, working with their sports research laboratory and athletes across the globe

“These athletes are super strong and powerful, they generate a ton of power through their lower body so we wanted to make sure we accommodated this in the fit and for her body in motion.”

The Matildas will wear it for the first time in Colorado when they play the USWNT.

It is now available in women’s, men's and kids sizes from 12 March via the FFA Online Store.
