Australians urged to #GetOnSide with Women’s World Cup bid

FFA has launched a website for its 2023 Women's World Cup bid and a hashtag known as #GetOnside.

The website at AusBid2023.com invites Australians to register support for the bid – without any hint that it doesn't really matter how many Australians support the bid, only 211 voters of FIFA Congress will actually count.

What will be more critical to the Women's World Cup bid is who will be representing Australia on an international stage after the FFA Board election. A business person with little to no football knowledge will not be someone the FIFA voters will be interested in hearing from – particularly without any cash to splash around.

Nonetheless, Matildas Lisa De Vanna, Alanna Kennedy, Caitlin Foord and Chloe Logarzo joined current FFA CEO, David Gallop on yet another grey and cloudy day in Sydney. All of them urged the rest of us to join the pledge in supporting the bid as it would leave a lasting legacy for the nation and football.

Gallop went further, stating that hosting the World Cup would “deliver significant economic and social benefits to our nation, increase the commercial value of football in Australia and globally, and elevate the FIFA Women’s World Cup to new heights.

“Australia has a strong track record of hosting major international sporting events including the AFC Asian Cup and the Olympics, and we can assure FIFA that Australia would be a great host.

“Our Bid has the backing of the Federal Government, and thanks to their support we are well advanced in our planning and ready for the formal process to commence,” Gallop said.
